Standing Firm (for now)

I may also give up blogging for Lent (hurrah! I hear you cheer); and E-bay as well (boo! the massed sellers protest).

I waste enough time on line as it is (when the m-f internet's working) and need to keep off these new drugs. I gather that being a refusenik is an unusual stance now and considered to be, appropriately, 'socially' unacceptable. What do you think?

You are of course doing the Right Thing OP. Do you feel liberated?

I've dabbled in some of this social networking rubbish, and found it all a waste of time. Everyone's banging on about Twitter, yet I'm still to be told what the hell's the point of it. Those who are converts simply say I don't get it, as if that's explanation enough.

What, exactly, is there to 'get' about saying what you're doing to an endless stream of other people saying what they are doing at the same time as you're saying what you're doing? If there is one, I've yet to discover it.

And as I've pointed out on another site, if these people were actually honest on this rubbish, they'd type this:

I'm writing this on Twitter.
I'm writing this on Twitter.
I'm writing this on Twitter.
I'm writing this on Twitter.
I'm writing this on Twitter.
I'm writing this on Twitter.
I'm writing this on Twitter.

Until such time as this fad fades away. Probably next month.

Oh, and they're all bastards.

Forgot that bit.*

*I wrote this on Five-Centre's site by mistake.

F-C I feel about as busy as I want to without it all. I might be missing out on a load of trivia about other people but can live without that and I guess they will be able to live without mine as well. The details* of my life bore me a lot of the time so why inflict them on others eh. I feel reciprocally disinterested about the minor details of every other person on the planet's life as well.
Mrs op on the other hand has a wide circle of friends and uses Facebook but not fanatically. She is younger than me and more sociable (not an achievement). Fair enough.

BPP I agree with you. I think you should have left the 'Bastards' comment on F-C though as it would have made a nice postscript, condemning everybody in the past across the board. I'm sure F-C would probably see the funny side of that.

*my life is mainly about details, and hence mainly boring.
